Crown Reduction
Reduce a tree's height and spread while preserving its natural form and long-term health. This is not topping.
Reduction, Done Properly — Never Topping
A crown reduction is not topping. Topping is brutal, ugly, and usually fatal. A proper reduction is selective — we make smaller cuts back to lateral branches that can take over the role of the leader, so the tree gets shorter and narrower without looking butchered or dying back. The cuts we make protect the tree's future.
- Reduction back to lateral branches (no stub cuts)
- Proportional shaping that preserves the natural form
- Used for clearance, wind-load reduction, and view management
- Done with species and timing in mind
- Cleanup and haul-off included
- Honest input on whether reduction is the right call

CROWN REDUCTION QUESTIONS
How much can you safely reduce a tree?
Best practice is no more than 20-25% of the live canopy in a single season for most species. Larger reductions can be done over multiple visits.
Will the tree grow back the same height?
It will grow, but a properly reduced tree responds with controlled new growth — not the wild "water sprouts" you see after topping.
Is reduction always the right answer for a tall tree?
No. Sometimes the right move is removal and replanting with a better-sized species. We'll tell you what we'd actually recommend.
